In the dark ages, mansions and wealthy people were often seen by the masses as evil, tyrannical, exploitive, mean, heartless, criminal, and spiritually unconscious. But now that age is ending. Powerful people are turning to the light, and enlightened people are becoming powerful. Then mansions can become ashrams of compassion . . . Temples of Light.
Why is it necessary to violate the rights of others and the sanctity of the Earth in order to be wealthy? It is not necessary. In fact, it is far more successful in this rising planetary frequency to use power in benevolent and nurturing ways. The dawning Golden Age will be a time when power becomes peaceful and peace becomes powerful.
Sri Yukteswar was the master and guru of Paramahansa Yogananda. Sri Yukteswar lived in a mansion which he converted to his ashram in Serampore, India. He was independently wealthy, and never accepted offerings of money. He routinely turned down donations and grants. This is an example of an Enlightened Master who had material wealth and used it exclusively for the betterment of mankind.
Sri Rajarsi Janakananda, whose American name was J. J. Lynn, was an oil millionaire in the 1920s and 1930s in Los Angeles at a time when a million dollars was like a billion today. He was fortunate enough to meet Paramahansa Yogananda, who was living in Los Angeles at that time. Under Yogananda’s guidance, Mr. Lynn attained enlightenment. He was given the spiritual name Sri Rajarsi Janakananda.
In the same city of Los Angeles in 1959, industrialist and major real estate developer Charles Lutes met His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who had only just recently arrived in America from the Himalayas for the first time. Charles Lutes too was guided into enlightenment within a few years, in this case due to the guidance of Maharishi. In his talks, he tells the story of this experience, and how he felt on the day it happened – like “all heaven fell in on me”.
Thus in some cases, enlightened beings created wealth; and in other cases, wealthy people became enlightened. It is the coming together of these two dimensions of inner and outer fullness that is the natural and normal condition in all higher worlds and in all higher ages on Earth.
In the dark ages, when the vibration is low, the enlightened have usually remained humble and obscure, so as to avoid the complicated dramas that arise with publicly visible power. That is why the financial and political power fell mostly to the unawakened but clever types.
Everyone knows what the consequence has been. In the last few thousand years, financial and political power came to be almost automatically associated with vices, corruption, tyranny, crime, and destructive influences. Many of the average people throughout the world came to see anyone with financial and political power as being automatically suspected of being evil and untrustworthy.
Now that the wheel of time has turned through the phase transition towards the dawn of a new Golden Age, accordingly more and more wealthy people are becoming enlightened, and more and more enlightened people are becoming wealthy. This is the natural order of things which appears increasingly as the vibratory frequency of a planet goes up.
Sri Bhagavan and his consort Amma were born enlightened, and are thus considered to be divine avatars. But they were not born financially wealthy. They came into families of average means in south India, but they manifested an entire city, called Golden City, built from the ground up according to Sthapatya Veda, the science of architecture and landscaping in tune with natural law.
Its main temple was completed in 2006-2007, and is one of the most beautiful in India. So this is an example of enlightened people creating material wealth. Their story is told in my book Cosmic Renaissance in the chapter “Fountains of Freedom and Points of Infinite Light”.
Also in that chapter are the stories of Sai Baba, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Mata Amritanandamayi, Sri Karunamayi, Osho, and others. All of them are Enlightened Masters who were born in families of poor to average means but who created worldwide empires with foundations, universities, hospitals, cottage industries, peace palaces, orphanages, technology institutes, teaching centers, health spas, and whole communities.
Similarly, today more people in higher states of consciousness have become prosperous to one degree or another than ever before in known history. They number in the millions. The reverse is equally true – – that millions of wealthy and successful people have had spiritual awakenings – – more than ever before in known history.
Religious leaders of the recent past who have taught that money is the root of all evil, and who have spread lies about wealth in order to discredit it, have maintained dominance over the masses by discouraging and even preventing them from getting wealthy. The priests, the politicians, and the bankers who put out this world view suffered from a serious case of egomania. We wouldn’t want their karma.
So for spiritually awakened and highly conscious people of this present time in world history to gain wealth and prominence, it creates a powerfully healing and uplifting influence for the world. This is because the higher states of consciousness eliminate destructive thoughts to zero. When people of that clear plane of awakening command significant resources in society, it has a magnified influence of powerfully life supporting and evolutionary influences.
In ancient Vedic India, it was known that certain kings and queens were enlightened, such as King Janaka, the father of Sita, the consort of Lord Rama. Emperor Ashoka was famously spiritually Realized as well as secularly powerful. Both Lord Rama and Lord Krishna were Avatars – – enlightened divine incarnations who both commanded royal kingdoms.
Likewise, King Solomon, spoken of in the Bible, was known as both spiritually realized and financially powerful. The same was the case with the very ancient Pharaohs of Egypt – – not the more recent ones, but the really ancient original ones. Those were the governments of compassion, generosity, happiness, abundance, goodness, kindness, peace, and true justice. The Sanskrit phrase “purnamida purnamidam” refers to this 200% of life – – 100% inner fullness and 100% outer fullness. These qualities are rising to return again today.
People who have this integration are harmless to everyone and everything except harm itself. They say “no” to nothing except “no” itself. Their investments are beyond just “socially responsible”. By virtue of their high awareness, their donations and investments are exclusively in the things that give the most leveraged expansions of evolutionary benefits for all life.
Hence it benefits all mankind for spiritually awakened people to have prosperity. To want wealth merely to indulge heavily in toxic and harmful pursuits and to go on ego trips and try to lord it over others, is the classic sign of being unawakened. Such misguided obsession is only possible if one is unconscious.
By contrast, spiritually awakened people favor wealth for an entirely different set of reasons. These include altruism, generosity, creativity, compassion, maturity, intelligence, universal love, refined aesthetics, and heavenly vision. Thus their use of wealth is far more helpful for all life – – for the human race, the animal kingdom, the plant kingdom, the Earth itself, and the entire universe.
Living in great wealth and beauty is ubiquitous throughout the universe on all planets and planes except the not-yet-integrated third dimension. Readers of this book who have spent time in higher worlds, whether via telepathy, clairvoyance, astral travel, visits to mother ships, near death experiences, memories of heavenly sojourns between incarnations, or memories of past lives in higher worlds, understand and know well that the wealth, opulence, beauty, and abundance are vast and unlimited in those worlds.
Master Osho once humorously remarked that it is a miracle that humans on Earth have managed to create poverty, scarcity, miserliness, and suffering – – because otherwise the abundance in the universe is so vast and all-pervading that it seems impossible to miss it. What is the need for so many fish in the sea? What is the need for so many birds and flowers and oceans and grains of sand on the beaches? We should put nature on a budget, he said. And then consider the stars and galaxies in the universe. Scientists still haven’t found the end of them. They go on and on and on. This universe is a universe of abundance and joy. It is really a kind of negative miracle that only man in the dark ages of Earth has managed to obscure all of that abundance and create the illusion of scarcity and suffering.
Dr. Buckminster Fuller and other seers have demonstrated that there is more than enough wealth in the world to allow every man, woman, and child to have nutritious food, convenient and clean water, dignified and beautiful shelters, free energy powered transportation, free communications, basic luxuries, and unlimited fair opportunity. Life supporting and well-endowed environments are where the innocent and the pure of heart can live and radiate happiness to all beings. Beautiful environments are ideal for deep meditation, and any kind of creative life-supporting work that is giving harmless and nourishing influences to society, solving the problems of mankind, and making the world a better place.
As we awaken to our true nature, increasingly we realize that we can be anything, know anything, have anything, and create anything. So why not create magnificence?
As the higher frequencies continue streaming in from the center of the galaxy and the Great Central Sun, collective consciousness awakens to higher and higher levels. Then automatically, all money problems are solved for everyone, because everyone awakens to the abundance of the universe, the joy of unconditional Love, and the oneness of all life.
